Water Elemental Mage Deck (61 cards) by cryptoid7

[Alliance] [Tournament Quality]

This description really needed some detail for such a good deck so here we go.
Hero
Olvek- occasionally gets a card for 1. try to combo with seeds or hope your a good guesser

Abilities-
Cold Front- cheap way to stop a rush deck in their tracks. Murloc, GC, and the like cant attack for the turn.
Counterspell- prevent abillities. Duh
Overload - wanted it to be next to Counterspell. Prevent allies. Duh
Ice Barrier- Badass card. Stops Damage and puts your opponent on a clock. Best with a servant and one of these in hand so you get it turn 2.
Frost Blast- amazing board wipe and damage prevention.
Flame Lance - great early game ally removal, 1 cost to trade to up to one of their regular 3 drops
Glacial Tomb- stops heavy hitters and protecters.
Touch of Brilliance- some much needed card draw

Allies
Jaina- Amazing. play whenever you can. Dampens their curve and makes yours more appealing. Plus Frost res.
Bound Torrent- With Abyssal Maw and Tidehunter you can heal for 8 total first turn. ( Token included).
Tidehunter- Amazing. Game Ender
Tidal Elemental- good to attach ToB to. good early game damage.
Revenant- blows crap up
Servant- quickens your curve to combat the rush meta.
Unstable Corruption- can end the game but more of a distraction because opponent must kill it. Heals with Abyssal Maw

Item
Bottled Knowledge- Great card draw

Quests/Location
Blah da Blahx4
Blah da Blah x4
Abyssal Maw- Almost all allies can heal you. Essential

Btw seeds of their demise is used for an easy resource, aswell as you can use it to draw a card when used in a combo with the High magus' power. Basically pay 1 power to draw.

would it be worth it to put in kolorath? Seeing as how all my allies but the corruption are frost.

I like this deck, i think im going to use it, but whats the point of resuce the Earthspeaker? why not use another quest, like reoccupation since you have alot of allies?

I prefer resuce the earthspeaker because if you really need to draw cards, at this point you are probably out of cards. If you still have cards in your hand you will probably not have open resources for a while and if you do, you can use Olvek's flip and draw or use touch of brilliance if its on an ally and draw.

What if you have a high power card in hand and are unable to use it and your opponent has a strong force up against you?

Worse case scenario you have a Neptulon in your hand and cant use RTE. In that case you can make 2/1s using sea legs and abyssal maw. If you wish to put in other quests though, feel free, this is just the way i prefer it.

In that case why not take out 1 of the neptulons. Hes not really necessary seeing as how you have alot of different ways to win

I would recommend finding a spot for Jaina, Lady of Theramore. She is so amazing in this style of deck. Frost Resistance, for the mirror match. She hurts your opponent, and helps you. What is not to love about her.

Yes, she is a card is a premium card in the new fall starters.

I would also drop the rescue the earthspeakers, there has got to be a better option than that. With Feludius making all frost cards stashable, I would find a way to get your bottles up, and maybe even add something to take advantage of the things hitting your graveyard.

the tidal elemental is legal, it was printed in elements. Not certain how I feel about the quest. I might consider dropping down to eight quests, and finding those 3 spots other places.

+1 Bottled Knowledge
+2 Naz'jar

You have 12 resources between the quests and the locations. Combined with the ability to have Feludius and stash you should be fine. I would also look into other ways to increase your draw. That is one of the biggest strengths of mage.

I am thinking of assembling this deck, to test it out... If I do I will let you know what I found.

Yes thank you,I already have this deck and it works amazing at my locals just to let you know. When I said water elemental, i meant the old 3 cost pet not the tidal elemental and sure i think thats a good idea about dropping setting the example seeing as how its not very important, just wanted a extra resource card so that I didnt have to throw out good cards as resources.

The sorceress is a gimme. She is designed to force your opponent to deal with her on the turn she appears, or she will lock down a bigger ally every turn. I really like the bottle, and can definitely see using it a lot.

Another card that would be of great use in a deck like this, is the Gilblin Deathscrounger,

On another note, how would the gilblin be useful?

I made a deck similar to this several months ago. It made top deck as well. Congratulations for carrying on the water elemental goodness. :D

From much experience, I have learned that Revenant of Neptulon will be one of your biggest sources of damage.

I also recomment RIpple. It's a cheap Arcane spell that does small damage to all opposing characters and has a good stash.

Also, in my opinion you have too many high cost cards (allies). In today's current competitive meta-game, you have to be able to compete with the aggro decks.

Thanks, and yes revenant is an easy way to take out my opponents allies, though i wouldnt call it a main source of damage. I dont think i would use ripple in this deck because I am using the revenants for board clear. I also have a lot of low cost cards - especially 1 costs. Ive noticed that i normally have a mix so that I have a great flow in any game. Say starting off with a few low costs and leading up to things like tidehunter. Ill agree that Neptulon the master hero is a bit high priced tho, which is why I only have one in the deck so generally by the time you draw him, its almost end game anyway. But thank you for feedback and its great to hear someone else aprecciates the water elementals XD

With the Neptulon master hero and the elemental lord your hero becomes elusive. Also adding in Arcanomage Misti and the mage favor will give you crazy card drawing power. Using the servants to power out the lord and the master hero early is I think the key to really locking down this deck. You could potentiatlly have a turn 7 master hero or turn 4 or 5 elemental lord pumping out damage and heals. Feluduis seems a little out of place considering you can pump out tokens with abysall maw. Cold Front is also a great frost stall card the the servants can help you power out against aggro. Frost Nova has also been reprinted so that might be a good addition. My friend plays a similar deck only using the new monster mage and it works quite well, almost every game he gets to master hero and the lord out making it very hard to get damage on him considering all the healing he can do with the water elementals combined with the lord by simply tapping them. Just some suggestions. :)

On Neptulon, the Tidehunter card there's "Neptulon(1)", so can we still have Neptulon hero and Neptulon ally altogether on the field at the same time?

Im unsure about that, but most people treat Neptulon(1) as the same as unique. When ive played them both it was perfectly acceptable. I will check with a cryptozoic employee though.

I have scrolled through the wowtcg forum, and found out that you can use them both at the same time. The tag Neptulon(1) means we can only use 1 card with Neptulon(1) tag on the field. Since master hero Neptulon doesn't have the Neptulon(1) tag, then it's okay to play him even when Neptulon the Tidehunter is on your field :)

Yes, ive had grand crusader players mutter curses when the yplay me XD. Idea is to glacial tomb their allies and cold front will even stop a makuzon in its tracks. glacial tomb can annoyingly be taken out with divine cleanse but cold front cannot be dispelled.

So I was playing my friend's warrior dragonkin deck with a deck similar to this deck and I found a couple things I was having difficulty with. Equipment, there's 0 anti-equipment in this deck, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions for a sideboard? It really sucks when you kill a bunch of allies ob for them to beef up your opponent's Akirus, the Worm-breaker.
My second point of contention is the inability to stop heroes from attacking. Suggestions would be nice there as well.

Thats why you heal ;P. If only one beefed up guy is hitting you per turn, you put a couple elementals into play, heal, then you can just keep hitting him harder and harder

Mainstream decks are Meta xD if your building a control deck those are the decks you have to run against over and over till you find what works and what doesn't. Originality went out of the current Meta since Throne and Worlds but that leaves you expecting these decks so you can plan what you need to face them.
All in all an interesting deck but i fail to see any way to deal with GC, Nature Hunter, Poison Tip Murloc and most of the Meta Decks.

If your running Ice barrier as your main way of victory, ( which makes sense cuz its amazing =P), you need to be aware of agressive token decks. Ice barrier can be broken by 3 1/1s and then you get hit in the face with a bunch of stuff. I love Ice barrier too, it has won me more games than I can count, but your only chance to save it in that situation is cold front, so I was thinking about putting the spell ripple in for the aoe blowup.

Hey great deck i like it, but i thought of just changing the hero, Olvek chance to get 1 card, and if you dont have Seeds then its a guessing game, does'nt really seem worth it, i would use Queen Angerboda, i no people might say dont because Jaina is your only target but she has a huge target on her because of how good she is, just my 2cents, goodluck.

So deck is now in 4 days later and ran it against murloc rush deck. Won 2 out 3 due to me having terribly high draw first hand. deck runs extremely smooth. Though I have only had it for a day all I can say is "KNOW THE DECK YOUR FACING!!!" There are so many cards that are very iffy to resource. Could quickly cause a game lose just because you slipped up resourcing incorrectly =/
